Dr. Kalam was a visionary and practical educational thinker who believed in building a strong Indian society by combining traditional and modern educational values. As a renowned scientist, he made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology. His books, essays, and research papers have opened up new opportunities in fields like metallurgy, ballistics, and aeronautics.

Below are some important factors of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, for better Education.

A. The main goal of students should be to achieve academic success, as this is their first step in contributing to the country’s progress. The education system should help students develop skills like inquiry, creativity, technology, entrepreneurship, and moral leadership. By fostering these qualities, we aim to create “Autonomous Learners” who are self-directed, lifelong learners. These students will be able to respect authority while also being able to question it when necessary.
B. Quality education for children in rural areas should focus on providing essential facilities. Schools need proper buildings with good lighting and ventilation. Classrooms should be spacious and bright. The school should also have a library, well-equipped labs, clean restrooms, a playground, and safe drinking water. Allocating an additional 2 to 3 per cent of the GDP can make this possible.
C. Education is key to a country’s development and prosperity. India is striving to become a developed nation by 2020. However, 350 million people are illiterate, and many others still need skills that will help them meet the demands of modern India and the global workforce.
D. We need to raise awareness about education across all sections of society, especially among the poor in urban and rural areas. Technology should play a key role in this effort. The media, social and humanitarian organizations, and NGOs can help spread awareness. We must also mobilize the necessary resources to educate the underprivileged.
E. Governments have been working towards achieving universal education by gradually increasing the budget for education over the past 50 years. However, 35% of adults remain illiterate. The amount of money spent on education in relation to our GDP directly affects literacy rates. Currently, India spends just over 4% of its GDP on education. To achieve nearly 100% literacy, we must increase this spending to around 6–7% of GDP.
It will only take a few years to maintain this 2–3% increase in education spending. After that, a smaller portion of GDP will be enough to keep the country’s literacy rates high for the long term.
F. Reports show that 39% of children drop out after fifth grade, and 55% drop out after eighth grade. This issue needs urgent attention, especially with the 86th Constitution Amendment Act in place, which covers children aged 5 to 14 under the Right to Education Bill. However, simply passing the law won’t solve the problem. Education must be provided in a way that considers the real-life circumstances and perspectives of the people it aims to help. Along with encouraging children to attend school, the system should also nurture their creativity and growth. The educational system should focus on building character and values, enhancing learning through technology, and preparing children to face the future with confidence.
G. Technology-enhanced education is becoming increasingly important due to time, and location challenges, and the fast pace at which knowledge in science and technology evolves. To support a knowledge-driven society, a functional digital library system is essential. As technology advances and costs decrease, using technology in education becomes a more affordable and practical solution. In the future, teachers from different locations will teach students in virtual classrooms using a tele-education system.
